Ambleside is  the centre of England's most popular walking area and  maintains one of the busiest Volunteer Mountain Rescue Teams in the country. It has a Tourist Information Centre and there is easy access to  Climbing,  Cycling and Water Sports.

A variety of  interesting shops and specialist retailers abound, including the largest independent outdoor equipment shop in the U.K. and  one of Englands finest Garden Centres. 

Visitors can choose from a wide selection of  excursions including exciting bus trips by “Mountain Goat” and boat trips on Lake Windermere. There is even a horse-drawn bus which travels between the town centre and the lake. Ambleside has something for everyone.
